About the choir & singing with us.

We usually have 3 concerts a year. Repertoire is both classical and modern.  Concert venues are usually in Hemel Hempstead, where we can be accompanied by a variety of instruments including piano, organ, harp or small orchestra. Occasionally we join forces with other choirs, for example The Hardynge Choir of Harpenden, to allow us to perform larger scale works.
We also undertake other ad hoc performances such as the Age UK Concert and singing Christmas carols in the town. We have had exchange visits with choirs in France and Mannheim.

Additional information:

  • If you are interested in singing with us have a look at our Rehearsals Page and come to a few rehearsals before committing to membership. Also note that new members will have a half term free from charge.

  • There is no formal audition, however, after you have been attending approximately 6 rehearsals our music director will have a chat with you to see how you are getting on. He will ask you to sing a few scales and perhaps something from one of the pieces we have been learning. Some free help for note learning is usually freely available on the internet.  See the Links page or in the case of Elgar's Gerontius click here .

  • The choir librarian usually has hire music available for a small charge, or if you wish to own a copy it can be bought for you.

  • Yearly membership fee is normally 150, but full time students, Dacorum Card holders and all under 26 have a much reduced fee.

  • Choir uniform: women - black top and trousers or long skirt with red accessories; men - black suits, white shirts and red bow ties. The red accessories and bow ties are provided by the Concert Manager.
